Work stuff
I’ve been working crazy hours on some organizational work for the past few days… I think the work is interesting, and I like it, but I wouldn’t call it “exciting stuff.”
- I’m reviewing the bylaws for an organization I’m on the board of. I’ve found some inconsistencies that I think we need to address.
- Working to create (i.e., document) better governance/decision making policies there too.
- Doing a lot of organizing of files and information.
This is the kind of stuff that (if done well and kept up with) makes organizations function better. I also find it is a great way to learn about an organization’s history and how it gets things done. It also helps me understand an organization’s institutional memory. However, it is not the kind of work people generally volunteer to do.
As a bonus, when I do this, I can return to other stuff I’ve been working on or obsessing over and see it with fresh-ish eyes. I also come up with interesting thoughts about my other stuff when I’m not working on it directly, so I return to it with a few new ideas.
